Research Interests:

Digital signal processing and its applications in biomedical engineering and audio processing.

Dr. Goubran has led many research projects in the area of sensors and data analytics related to the design of smart home for the independent living of seniors, ambient-based patient monitoring, pressure-sensitive mats, vital sign monitoring and microphone arrays.

He has completed the supervision of 18 Ph.D. and 62 Master’s students. Since 2004, he has co-authored 10 patents, 34 refereed journal papers and 140 conference papers.

Dr. Goubran served in many administrative and research positions such as IEEE guest co-editor, IEEE technical program committees, IEEE conference co-chair, and the executive committee of Global Engineering Deans Council. He is a scientist at the Bruyère Research Institute, and the co-leader of the Technology Assisted Environment for the Third Age (TAFETA) project. Dr. Goubran served as Chair of the Council of Ontario Deans of Engineering from 2009 to 2011 and as a member of the Research Ethics Board of the Ottawa Heart Institute from 2006 to 2009. He was the founding Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Biomedical Engineering (OCIBME) from 2006 to 2009.

Dr. Goubran is a Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and a member the association of Professional Engineers of Ontario.
