Research Interests:

Sensor applications, smart homes, real-time analytics, patient monitoring, audio signal processing and the design of smart environments for the independent living of seniors.

Dr. Goubran has completed the co-supervision of 24 Ph.D. and 72 Master’s students. He has co-authored 12 patents, 70 refereed journal papers and 260 conference papers.

Dr. Goubran is Vice-President (Research and International) and Chancellor’s Professor at Carleton University. He served for over 10 years as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design and for 8 years as Chair of the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering. Dr. Goubran is the co-leader of the Technology Assisted Environment for the Third Age (TAFETA) project and was the founding Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Biomedical Engineering (OCIBME) from 2006 to 2009.

Dr. Goubran is a Life Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, an Affiliate Investigator at the Bruyère Research Institute, and a member the association of Professional Engineers of Ontario.
