Using JESS for Agent Knowledge Representation
Background
- JESS (Java Expert System Shell) supports the development of rule-based expert systems which can be tightly coupled to code written in the powerful, portable Java language.
- It is therefore suitable for the stand alone embedded programming that agents require.
- It is primarily an expert system development environment but components of JESS can be used independently for an rule-based agent.
Justification
- Separates agent programming from agent reasoning.
- Relatively simple to use and encode knowledge with.
- Has a strong following that commenced with CLIPS (1990's)
- Supported by SANDIA National labs [1].
