2023-2024 Carleton Ravens Swim Team General Information
Nico Belisle, ROC Swimming, is our head coach.
The training schedule is below. Note that you are expected to attend at least five swim workouts per week. (If your course schedule does not permit this, we can provide workouts that can be done during Carleton's lane swims.) The dryland workout schedule will be finalized later.
Equipment to bring to the pool:
-
water bottle: You may wish to bring a larger bottle with water, and a secondary bottle with some sports drink, especially if you have a hard time eating before practice.
- pull buoy
- paddles
- ankle band
- fins: Coach Nico recommends two pairs:one small blade pair for longer training sets, and one larger/power set for sprints. If you only have a budget for one pair, the small blade pair is more important!
-
Small Blade Examples: Speedo - Switchblade, TYR - Burner / Crossblade / Stryker, Arena - Powerfin (not PRO), Finis - Zoomers / Positive Drive Fins
-
Power Examples: TYR - Hydroblade, Arena - Powerfin PRO (1 or 2), Finis - Edge
The competition schedule is posted below.
There is a fee of $1200 to join the team for the season (September to April). Swimmers are encouraged to apply for bursaries to offset the cost. Details below (under "Paperwork and Forms").

Ravens Athlete Registration System: Athletics Portal
This needs to be completed by everyone every season. Note to returning swimmers: This replaces the old formstack.
Please follow these instructions to register:
- Use the following link to access the Ravens Athletics Portal.
- Select the “Create your Own Account” button on the home page.
- Enter your first and last name as you would on any document, using proper capitalization, and your Carleton cmail email address (name@cmail.carleton.ca). Then select the “Create Account” button.
- From here you will be redirected to the main dashboard where you can select “Register for a team or club”.
- Select the team(s) you are a part of and begin your registration.
- Once your registration is complete, the Ravens athletics staff will be able to view your registration and begin the approval process for the upcoming season.
- If you have issues downloading the blank medical form, here's a copy: Medical Form. A doctor's signature is not required.
Once you have completed the registration, you will be able to see your “Dashboard”
consisting of red "X"s and green "check mark"s. The “X”s are not necessarily an indication that you have not completed the content. Each of these sections must be approved by Athletics Administration. The X will change to a check mark once these components have been verified. The Confirmation Page allows you to view all components and will identify any sections you may have missed. Please review the Confirmation Page carefully.
U Sports Portal Registration
All swimmers must register annually in the U Sports Central Portal. Go to: https://usportscentral.ca/. Please be sure to use your Carleton cmail e-mail address when setting up or accessing your account.
Returning swimmers: No cost. Click "Sign In" and follow the instructions. Note that you need your U Sports ID from last year -- let me know if you need this as I have a list. Once you are logged in, confirm your personal information (page by page) and be sure to sign off on the "Athlete Consent Acknowledgement". Please email me (or tell me) when you've completed this, as I don't get a confirmation email.
New swimmers: Cost is $50. Click "Register" and follow the instructions. After completion, please send me your U Sports ID as Carleton needs this for eligibility purposes. Once you have done that and have been added to Carleton's athlete list, I will let you know and you need to go back in and go through your profile page by page, and sign off on the "Athlete Consent Acknowledgement" on the last page of your profile.
If you encounter any difficulties with the system contact me.
Swim Canada Account
Once I register you with Swim Canada, you will get an email asking you to set up or confirm your account and to agree to several waivers.
Apply for a Bursary
Not required, but recommended if you have financial need. The deadline to apply is October 31st. Complete the Carleton Bursary application form in Carleton Central. You will only be permitted to fill this in if there are bursaries that you are eligible for. Some are for students eligible for OSAP and some are not. Check out the instructions.
