2022-2023 Carleton Ravens Swim Team General Information

Pierre Lafontaine is our head coach!

The training schedule is below. Note that you are expected to attend at least five swim workouts per week.

The competition schedule is also posted below.

Once the team is selected, there will be a fee of $1000 to join the team for the season (September to April). Swimmers are encouraged to apply for bursaries to offset the cost. Details below (under "Paperwork and Forms").

We ask that all swimmers donate to the team on Giving Tuesday. However, this is not required. Giving Tuesday is on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Funds donated early in the day are matched by Carleton. Those who donate are requested to do so early in the day, preferably just after midnight Monday. We thank all those who are able to support the team.

2022-2023 Workout Schedule

Workouts will start Wednesday September 7. The first ten days will be open tryouts. Everyone should attend as many tryout workouts as possible. The team will be selected from all those who attend the tryouts. Swimmers are selected as general team members (i.e. not selected for specific events.)

Once the team is selected, swimmers are expected to attend at least five swim workouts per week. For those with conflicts with classes, alternate arrangements can be made.

If possible, bring paddles (finger paddles and regular paddles [stroke maker is best, but any regular paddles are fine]), fins [any brand], and a snorkel to workout. Carleton has kick boards, pull buoys and fins.

Swimmers will be informed if they have been selected for the team by Sunday September 18.

All workout changes will be noted here, and posted in the FB group.

2022-2023 Competition Schedule / Trips

Athletic Therapy

Swimmers may arrange a 30 minute Athletic Therapy appointment by booking here. Be sure to select "CLUB - 30 min AT treatment (with Sarah)" at the upper right before selecting your appointment. These sessions happen in the first aid room of the Ice House (room 13).

Please note, there is a $30/treatment fee charged at the beginning of each session. This payment is cash only. You will be issued a receipt and may choose to attempt to be reimbursed through insurance.

Massage Therapy

A few student-athletes each week can get free massages on Wednesday from Algonquin College students studying Massage Therapy. Inquire and book at Varsity Athletic Therapy, the room by the Alumni Hall doors to Parking Lot 5 and the Fieldhouse.

Paperwork and Forms for 2022-2023

To be eligible to swim on the Varsity team, there are a lot of forms to complete.

Team Facebook Group

Please join the Carleton Ravens Swim Team Facebook Group if you haven't already done so.

Formstack (and Medical Form) for Swim Eligibility

This needs to be done by everyone every year. Please read the FAQ before completing!

Form: Swimming Formstack; Password: swimming

Formstack FAQ Answers/Notes:

U Sports Portal Registration

All swimmers must register annually in the U Sports Central Portal. Go to: https://usportscentral.ca/. Please be sure to use your Carleton cmail e-mail address when setting up or accessing your account.

Returning swimmers: No cost. Click "Sign In" and follow the instructions. Note that you need your U Sports ID from last year -- let me know if you need this as I have a list. Once you are logged in, confirm your personal information (page by page) and be sure to sign off on the "Athlete Consent Acknowledgement". Please email me (or tell me) when you've completed this, as I don't get a confirmation email.

New swimmers: Cost is $50. Click "Register" and follow the instructions. After completion, please send me your U Sports ID as Carleton needs this for eligibility purposes. Once you have done that and have been added to Carleton's athlete list, I will let you know and you need to go back in and go through your profile page by page, and sign off on the "Athlete Consent Acknowledgement" on the last page of your profile.

If you encounter any difficulties with the system contact me.

CCES (Canadian Centre for Ethics and Sport) True Sport Clean Course

This also has to be done every year, but it’s shorter if you are a returning athlete. Once you complete the course, please send me your certificate/transcript to prove that you have done it (either save as pdf or take a screen shot).

Please pay particular attention to the information on cannabis: https://cces.ca/cannabis.

If you have taken the CCES online course previously:
Please use the login information you previously created.
Can't remember your username? Try your email address.
Use the “Forgot Password?” function to retrieve your password if you have forgotten it.
Contact the CCES if you have forgotten your login information.
Do not use the enrollment key below to create a new account.
Please use this link to Login: http://education.cces.ca
After you log in to your account, it should take you to your dashboard with "The 2022 True Sport Clean Review Online Course" already listed for you. If that's not the case, go to: https://education.cces.ca/#/search/all/true%20sport, and select "The 2022 True Sport Clean Review Online Course".

If you are taking the CCES online course for the first time:
Please follow this link: http://education.cces.ca/#/signup
Type or copy and paste the Key Name: 2021-USPORTS into the appropriate box and press Sign Up. (Yes, I know it's 2022, but the key doesn't!)

  1. You will be prompted to enter your name and your email address. Your email address will become your username. Use your Carleton email address.
  2. Enter a password that you will remember.
  3. Log in with your new username and password.
  4. Go to "My Courses."
  5. You must complete the "Profile" module before you can start the course.
  6. Return to "My Courses" to begin the course.
  7. If you don't see the course, go to: https://education.cces.ca/#/search/all/true%20sport. That should bring up a list of courses. Select: "True Sport Clean 2022 Online Course"

If you return at a later date to start training or to continue a partially completed course, you must log in with your unique username and password. If you use the enrollment key again you will be creating a duplicate account and will have to start your training from the beginning. You'd prefer the e-learning portal to display in the other official language? Locate the "Language" function in the bottom left-hand corner of the e-learning portal.

If you have trouble logging in, please contact the CCES for assistance: Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, 1-613-521-3340 x3236 or 1-800-672-7775, education@cces.ca

Swim Ontario Personal Information Consent Form

New swimmers: To swim for Carleton, you need to be registered with Swim Ontario / Swim Canada. I take care of the registration, but they require that everyone sign this consent form. If you need a hard copy, let me know, and I'll bring it to the pool. Note that if you are under 18, it requires a parent / guardian signature. This only has to be done once, thus is not required if you completed it in a previous year.

2022 Spirit Day Gear Sizes

We are getting the Carleton 2022 Black Spirit Day Sweater for everyone. It comes in unisex sizes (S, M, L, XL). Please add your size to the Google Sheet link near the top of this page.

HPC (High Performance Centre) Form

Nick Westcott from the HPC will also be in touch to get the information he requires for you to join the swim team dryland training.

Swim Canada Account

Once I register you with Swim Canada, you will get an email asking you to set up or confirm your account and to agree to several waivers.

Apply for a Bursary

Not required, but recommended if you have financial need. The deadline to apply is October 31st. Complete the Carleton Bursary application form in Carleton Central. You will only be permitted to fill this in if there are bursaries that you are eligible for. Some are for students eligible for OSAP and some are not. Check out the instructions.
