CALL FOR PAPERS

WOSP ‘98

The First International Workshop on Software and Performance

October 12-16, 1998

Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA

Deadline Extended Until March 13, 1998

http://www.sce.carleton.ca/wosp98

Sponsored by ACM SIGMETRICS, and in cooperation with the Computer Measurement Group (CMG), IFIP WG 6.3 and 7.3, and ACM SIGSOFT. Industrial sponsors include: Hewlett-Packard Labs (Palo Alto), Scientific and Engineering Software (SES), and NORTEL.

Software performance engineering (SPE) research aims to build predictable performance into systems by considering quantitative behavior from a system’s requirements stage through to its maintenance and enhancement. Increasing system complexity, rapidly evolving software technologies, short time to market, incomplete documentation, and less than adequate quantitative models and tools offer many challenges to SPE practitioners and researchers. WOSP brings together SPE and Software Engineering researchers. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

SPE Process and Practices

Defining and managing performance goals

Risk assessment (when to analyze, value)

Architectural assessment

Performance oriented Design/Implementation

Experience with performance engineering

Modeling Tools and Techniques

Performance evaluation methods, tools, and frameworks

Gathering and exploiting data

Automated model building

Model and data interchange formats

Performance Measurement and Management for Software Systems

Measurement and monitoring techniques and services

Analysis of measured data, Application Quality of Service

Full papers, experience papers, position papers, and panels are solicited. Full papers and experience papers will be fully refereed for presentation in the workshop’s ACM Conference proceedings. Position papers will be used to make up workshops, and selected ones will be included in the proceedings.

Important Deadlines:

March 13, 1998 – submission and proposal deadline
