Winter Term
Registration
Registration for the Winter Term for
all Athletics programs is underway.  Note that the only Masters groups
continuing after Christmas without the need to re-register are the High
Intensity groups.  For all other groups (Earlybirds, Whitecaps, Nightcaps),
a new Winter registration is required.  Register early to avoid
disappointment.  Winter Masters groups start on Tue Jan 2nd /
Wed Jan 3rd.  Note that although the 6:30am group doesn’t start
until February 26th, registration for that group is open.  If
you want to switch from another group to the 6:30am group, let the Customer
Service staff know when you register.  Details on programs, dates and cost
can be found in the “Reminders” section below.  You can register on-line
at: https://secure.e-registernow.com/cgi-bin/mkpayment.cgi?state=742.

Masters Christmas
Party
Many thanks to Don, Joanie, Sam and Ben (Whitecaps “A” / Nightcaps / Safety
Supervision) for hosting the annual Christmas Party on Sat Dec
2nd.  The turn out was the best yet, and the food was, as
always, plentiful and very good!
   A few things were left
at the party.  Let me know if any belong to
you:
- a pair of men’s black
overshoes
- two bags of lapel
pins
Also, Vanessa (Whitecaps “B”) has kindly sent in
her recipe for the yummy Brie appetizer that she
brought:
Ingredients:
3/4 c. finely chopped pecans
1/3
c. coffee-flavored liqueur (Kalhua)
3 T. brown sugar
1 ea Brie mini-cheese
round (about 14oz)
Directions:
Toast pecans in a glass pie plate:
microwave on High for 2 minutes, stir, microwave an additional 2 minutes. If
necessary, stir and microwave again for 2 minutes, until pecans are toasted.
Stir in well the liqueur and brown sugar. Place Brie round on a microwave-safe
serving plate. Remove rind from the top of the Brie and discard. Spoon pecan
mixture over the top of the Brie. Microwave on high, uncovered, for 1-1/2 to 2
minutes, turning plate midway through heating time. Serve with assorted
crackers. Makes about 12 servings.

Ask the
Coach

Dear Coach:
When does the
6:30am Earlybirds start?  Morning
Swimmer
Dear M.
Swimmer: The first workout is Mon Feb 26th.
Dear
Coach:  Have you
ever heard of putting soap under your leg at night to prevent leg cramps?
It helps!  No More Leg Cramps
Dear N.M.L.
Cramps:  Well, this is certainly a new one on me, but I did find some
references to this on the web.  There are some even weirder suggestions at:
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=707090,
but here’s the appropriate one:
“Ann Landers suggests this “cure”: put an unwrapped bar of soap under the sheets so that the cramped leg rests upon it (the soap can be kept in place by putting rubber bands around it and pinning the rubber bands to the sheet).  Although there is no apparent explanation for this ‘cure-all,’ her readers swear that it really works.”  Dear Coach:  What are the pool and weight room hours for the holidays?  Want to Burn Off the Turkey   Dear W.t.B.O.t. Turkey :  See the beginning of the newsletter for a summary.
