He started his academic career in 1987 as an Assistant Lecturer and later became Lecturer I at the Department of Computer Science, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. He  was a Lecturer (1996) at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Lesotho, Roma, Lesotho.   In September 1998 he was appointed Senior Lecturer and Head of department, Computer Science & Information Systems at Vista University (now part of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University[3]), Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He also taught at the Institute National Polytechnique de Lorraine (INPL), Nancy, France and Université de Metz, Metz, France. He moved to Carleton University as an Assistant Professor in September, 2001.

His research interests are in   Software Requirements Engineering; Model Driven Approach and Aspect Oriented Design; Software Product Lines and System Family Engineering; Knowledge Acquisition and Management (with applications in Software Engineering); Discovering Knowledge from data (with applications in Software Engineering) and; Technology Innovation and Management.

He is a member of IEEE, ACM, and IAMOT

Samuel  is married to Victoria, and they have four children: Ibukun, Tobi, Ayo, and Victoria (Jr)
