Grading Scheme

A maximum of 100 marks will be available. The division is as follows:

Projects (Individual and group)

25 marks

Mid-term exam (70 minutes closed book exam)

20 marks

Final Exam (3 hours closed book exam)

55 marks

The mid-term exam will be held during regular class hours, on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. You should plan now to be there. There is no  differed mid-term exam.

Note that late hand-in of project proposals (individual and group) will be accepted with the penalty as follows:

        1.                     1.0 mark a day for weekdays

        2.                     0.65 mark a day for weekends and holidays

Note that 0.65 and 1.0 marks correspond to 0.65% and 1.0% of your grade, since every mark equals 1% of the overall grade.

Final Exam/Term Exam: Is for the evaluation purposes only and will not be returned to the student.

To pass the course (in addition to obtaining an appropriate overall mark), projects must be carried out and completed, and the final exam must be passed (50% or more). Failing to pass the final exam will result in an F grade for the course.

Students who miss the final exam may be granted permission to write a deferred examination (see the Undergraduate Calendar for regulations on deferred exams - section). These students have additional months to study and a less crowded examination schedule compared to their colleagues who write the final exam in December. As such, it is only fair to expect substantially better performance from these students on the deferred examination than on the April final exam.

Accreditation Issue

Accreditation of our Engineering programs requires that classes and laboratories, tutorials, or problem analysis sessions continue to run through the review period of the winter term. For 2008, the last day of normally scheduled classes (for non-engineering courses) falls on Monday April 7th. Note that all classes/labs/tutorials on this Monday April 7th will follow a Friday schedule (this day makes up for the missed statutory holiday on Friday March 21). Classes’ laboratories and tutorials will continue for engineering courses on Tuesday and Wednesday April 8th and 9th according to Tuesday and Wednesday schedules, respectively.
