Abstract:
Internet data centres are facilities for co-hosting customer applications
near points of presence on the Internet. This talk describes challenges
of scale that confront such data centres and discusses the current state of
integration for networking, computing and software systems. Together these
limit the nature of applications and services that can be hosted. An overview
of HP's new Utility Data Centre approach is given. It aims to address some of
the challenges and enable a shift towards plantary scale computing. Research
issues are discussed.
