Dept. of Systems & Computer Engineering:
Undergraduate Academic Support - 1st Year Hold

Students who have been in their program for more than one year, and who have at least one outstanding 1st year math, science, or engineering course, may be placed on "1st Year Hold" by the Associate Dean's Office. These students will be informed by email in June of each year. The purpose of this hold is to force students to complete their first year courses before moving on to upper year courses. This is in agreement with the Undergraduate Calendar which states that "In particular students will not have access to second, third or fourth year engineering, science or mathematics courses until they have achieved second year status. Check also the sections 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 at University Regulations.

Students who are on 1st Year Hold should fill in the form linked below to illustrate their proposed conflict-free schedule which must include all outstanding 1st year courses. Students should try to register themselves during the summer if possible, since courses fill up quickly. In the case of a scheduling conflict, preference must be given to outstanding 1st year courses. Be sure to USE YOUR CARLETON CONNECT EMAIL ADDRESS when filling out the form.
