Graduate Courses
Pointers to the actual course schedules appear at the end of this page, but it
is important to understand some basic concepts before making your course selections:
- Always check your course selection with your academic advisor or thesis supervisor.
- Students enrolled in the M.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering are members
of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Electrical and Computer Engineering (OCIECE), and can register
freely in any of the OCIECE courses offered through (i) Systems and Computer Engineering at Carleton University,
(ii) Department of Electronics at Carleton University, or (iii) School of Information Technology and Engineering
at the University of Ottawa.
- Students enrolled in the M.Eng. TIM or M.Sc. ISS are not members of the OCIECE. As such, they can take
any of the OCIECE courses offered at Carleton University, but to take OCIECE courses offered at the
University of Ottawa must first obtain a Guest Student permission form from the Faculty of Graduate
Studies at Carleton University and have this filled in and signed.
Please note the following rules governing course access:
- M.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering students:
- Should take courses primarily from among the OCIECE courses listed below, but can take courses from the other
categories with the permission of the advisor or thesis supervisor.
- M.A.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering students:
- Should take courses primarily from among the OCIBME courses listed below, but can take courses from the other categories with the
permission of the advisor or thesis supervisor.
- M.Eng. TIM students:
- Should check the rules governing course selection in the Graduate Calendar. MEng TIM students cannot enroll
directly in OCIECE courses offered through the University of Ottawa; you must first obtain a Guest Student
permission form from the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Carleton before attempting to enroll in a course
offered through the University of Ottawa.
- M.Sc. ISS students:
- Should check the rules governing course selection in the Graduate Calendar. Should take courses primarily
from the OCIECE courses which are offered at Carleton University, but can take courses from the other categories
with the permission of the advisor or thesis supervisor. MSc ISS students cannot enroll directly in OCIECE courses
offered through the University of Ottawa; you must first obtain a Guest Student permission form from the Faculty
of Graduate Studies at Carleton before attempting to enroll in a course offered through the University of Ottawa.
- Special Students:
- To take a graduate course at Carleton University, you must obtain a permission form from the Systems and Computer
Engineering office at Carleton University, and have this signed by the course instructor (not the Associate Chair
for Graduate Studies as it says on the form).
