Entrance Requirements

Minimum Entrance Requirements for all programs:
Additional Entrance Requirements for the M.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering:
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline from a recognized university. 

Additional Entrance Requirements for the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering:
  • Master's degree with thesis in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely-related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Master's thesis topic in an appropriate area, and of acceptable quality.

Additional Entrance Requirements for the M.Eng. in Technology Innovation Management (TIM):
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related discipline.
  • Two or more years of work experience in telecommunications or a related field.

Additional Entrance Requirements for the M.Sc. in Information and Systems Science (ISS):
  • Suitable undergraduate degree in a quantitative field from a recognized university. This program is aimed at high quality students who do not have an undergraduate preparation in electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Four or more courses in computing (computer languages, data structures, databases, etc.).
  • Six or more courses in mathematics, at least 2 of which are at the third year level or above.
  • Very high average marks.

Funding

Financial support for graduate students is available from three sources: Carleton scholarship funds are available for scholastic achievement, teaching assistantships (TA) for which the student is required to assist as a demonstrator or marker in a course, and research assistantships (RA) which may be provided by the thesis supervisor for assistance in research work. Applicants are automatically considered for financial support. Numerous other special scholarships are also available. International students, who submit strong applications and have high grades, may be eligible to receive some funding for their studies.
