If additional background is required to assist students with their thesis or research project, some 4th year courses are approved to be taken as part of the program. MASc students may opt to register in one 4th year undergrad course and MEng students may opt to register in two. PhD students cannot take 4th year courses for credit.
You must obtain written approval from your thesis supervisor for any 4th year course that you intend to take for credit. Also, it is at the discretion of the course instructor whether pre-requisites will be enforced.
Strong rationale must be presented to the MEng Advisor, and approval granted, before the official request is made and submitted through the Engineering Academic Support request form . Engineering Request Form
It is also the discretion of the instructor whether pre-requisites will be enforced.
If support is given by your advisor or supervisor you then need to complete the Engineering Request Form found on the Undergraduate Academic Support Scheduler Tool found here: http://at.eng.carleton.ca/engsched/newsplash.php?type=welcome
