SCE Students Awards

  • Qi Liu (supervised by Prof. Wainer) won the Best DEVS Modeling and Simulation Ph.D. Dissertation Award (Spring Simulation Conference; Symposium of Theory of Modeling and Simulation). 2012.
  • Khaldoon Al-Zoubi (supervised by Prof. Wainer) won the Runner-Up Best DEVS Modeling and Simulation Ph.D. Dissertation Award (Spring Simulation Conference; Symposium of Theory of Modeling and Simulation). 2012.
  • Sina Tolouei (supervised by Prof. Banihashemi), won the Strategic Microelectronics Council of ITAC Industrial Collaboration Award in TEXPO 2011 Research Exhibit for his project titled “High Speed FPGA Implementation of LDPC Codes for Optical Transport Networks”. 2012.
  • SCE students have obtained the IEEE Exemplary Student Branch Award. 2011.
  • CU@EMBS, Carleton's IEEE EMBS Student Club received the 2011 Outstanding Performance Award (an international competition among IEEE EMBS student clubs/chapters). At the same time, the IEEE Ottawa Chapter received the EMBS Outstanding Chapter Award (an international competition among IEEE EMBS chapters).
  • Filip Mares and Apurva Saini obtained the Second Place in the 2010 Carleton University Nicol Entrepreneurial Awards.
  • Emil Mitev, Mark Wakim, Tomas Dej and Felipe Ferreira were finalists in the Technology Venture Challenge. Their project produced an automated solution for the remote control of electronic devices in a home. 2010.
  • Mehran Talebinejad (co-supervised by Dr. Ali Miri, University of Ottawa) received an third place in the student paper competition in the Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Conference, Montreal PQ, 2008.
  • Qi Liu (with Yosri Harzallah, Vincent Michel and supervised by Gabriel Wainer and Yuhong Yan) was Finalist of the 2008 IEEE International Services Computing Contest.
  • Trevor Burton and Geoffrey Green (mentored by Miodrag Bolic) obtained the third place award in the multidisciplinary FPGA competition. Daanish Khan and Dragan Trifkovic (supervised by Dr. Adrian Chan and Dr. Sreeraman Rajan) obtained an honorable mention. 2008.
  • Vesal Badee's abstract was selected as a top ten finalist for the the 16th World Congress of the World Society of Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons (Bioengineering category). 2006.

SCE Students Senate Medals

  • Shafagh Jafer (supervised by Prof. Wainer) has obtained the Senate Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement (Doctoral level). 2011.
  • Emil Janulewicz (supervised by Prof. Banihashemi) was awarded the University Medal for Outstanding Graduate Work at the Master’s Level. 2010.
  • Rhys Goldstein (supervised by Prof. Wainer) obtained the University Medal for Outstanding Graduate Work - Master's Level. 2009.
  • Sidney Givigi (supervised by Prof. Schwartz) obtained the Senate Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement (Doctoral level). 2009.
  • Alan Davoust (supervised by Prof. Esfandiari)obtained the Senate Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement (Masters level) . 2009.
  • Ilia G. Polouchine (supervised by Profs. Liu and Lung) obtained the Senate Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement- Doctoral . 2009.
  • Abes Dabir (supervised by Prof. Matrawy) obtained the Senate Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement - Masters. 2009.
  • Akram Bin Sediq (supervised by Prof. H. Yanikomeroglu) obtained the Carleton University Senate Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement - Master's Level. 2008.
  • John Boyer was awarded the University's Governor General's Medal (cosupervisors: Prof. D. Falconer and H. Yanikomeroglu). He was also awarded the University Medal - Doctoral. 2007.
  • Hamid Saeedi was awarded the Senate Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement - Doctoral awarded to (supervisor: Prof. A. Banihashemi). 2007.
  • Shauna Mullally obtained the Board of Governors Award for Outstanding Community Achievement (supervisor: Prof. Monique Frize). 2007.
  • Kayvan Mosharaf (co-supervised by I. Lambadaris and J. Talim) received a senate medal - Doctoral. 2006.
  • Pirouz Zarrinkhat received the Senate Medal for outstanding academic achievement. 2005.
  • Saied Hemati received the Senate Medal for outstanding academic achievement. 2005.
  • Ezequiel Glinsky received the Senate Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement. (Supervisor: Prof. G. Wainer). 2004.
