·        Announcements

·         #17 (Mar 12) Announcement #16 is cancelled. Due to coronavirus, I will not be traveling next week. So, the SYSC 5608 lectures will take place next week on March 17 and 19.

·         #16 (Mar 10) There will be no SYSC 5608 lectures next week (March 17 and 19). The make-up lectures will take place on Tuesday, April 7, and Thursday, April 9. The final exam is on Monday, April 20 (9:00 am 12:00 noon).

·         #15 (Mar 10) SYSC 5608 Term Exam II will take place next Thursday, on March 12. This will be a 100-min exam. Please try to arrive at 8:15 am. I plan to start at 8:20 am; the exam will end at 10:00 am. The exam will take place in the course lecture room in Southam Hall.Similar to the first term exam, you can bring a one-page (one-sided) aid-sheet; you can write anything on the aid-sheet. I plan to ask 4 questions; three from the first term exam material and one from the topics covered after the first term exam.

·         #14 (Mar 09) Term Exam 1 solutions prepared by the fellow classmates, Hongzhao Zheng, Mohamed Hozayen, and Dana Haj Hussein, are posted above.

·         #13 (Mar 04) Voluntary TA Mohamed Hozayen will be hosting a study group session for Term Exam 2 this Friday, on March 6, during 2:00-4:00 at 7035 MC (or in the seating area on that floor).

·         #12 (Feb 19) As I stated in the email I sent on Feb 15, I will count the better of the two term exams towards the final grade. That is, if a student does well in Term Exam 2, I will not count his/her Term Exam 1. I plan to make Term Exam 2 a longer exam (perhaps 100 mins) which will cover everything from the beginning. The exam can take place be on Mar 3, 5, or 10; we will decide the date together. The best way to get ready for Term Exam 2 is to start by solving Term Exam 1 (note: two-thirds of  the Term Exam 2 questions will be from the concepts covered until Term Exam).

·         #11 (Feb 12) – The one-page aid-sheet for the exam tomorrow should be one-sided.

·         #10 (Feb 11) – Voluntary TA Mohamed Hozayen’s study group discussion: Wednesday, Feb 12, 3:15-5:15 pm, 7035 MC.

·         #9 (Feb 06) Term Exam 1 will take place on Thursday, Feb 13 (in-class).

·         #8 (Feb 04) One-page aid-sheet is allowed in Term Exam 1; you can write anything on the aid-sheet.

·         #7 (Jan 30) (Revised) I’d like to postpone Term Exam 1 by one week. Term Exam 1 will take place on Tuesday, Feb 11 (in-class).

·         #6 (Jan 23) A number of quiz and term exam solutions are posted above.

·         #5 (Jan 23) I’d like to thank Mohamed Hozayen (mohamedhozayen@sce.carleton.ca) and Ammar Abdelsamie (AmmarSayed@cmail.carleton.ca) for accepting being helpers in this course (some sort of voluntary TAship). Students are advised to have study partners or to form study groups. They can also ask their questions to Mohamed and Ammar.

·         #4 (Jan 16) Solve the quizzes from 2016, 2017, and 2018. Review the input-output characteristics of LIT systems, delta function, convolution, Fourier transform and basic properties, AWGN model, autocorrelation, PSD (power spectral density), random variables, and PDF (probability density function).

·         #3 (Jan 09) Try to solve Quiz 1 held today (posted above) before the next lecture.

·         #2 (Jan 05) Course outline, two sets of course notes, and past exam questions are posted above. I plan to give a short quiz on Thursday, Jan 9.

·         #1 (Jan 03) Welcome to SYSC 5608 website! The first lecture will be held on Tuesday, Jan 07, during 8:30 – 10:00 am, in 417 SA (Southam Hall). Carleton University campus map is available at https://carleton.ca/campus/map; Southam Hall is marked as SA in that map.
